Art Classes, Roswell GA.

"The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance." Aristotle

C.S. Lewis explained the right way to look at a work of art when he said: "We sit down before a picture in order to have something done to us, not that we may do things with it.  The first demand any work of art makes upon us is surrender.  Look.  Listen, Receive."

Were so used to flipping through channels on our t.v's. and scanning through messages and emails on our phones that we've become a society of scanners rather than lookers.

One of the beautiful things about creating art is that it causes you to stop, really stop to look and ponder and connect with your creativity.  For me personally, it's a spiritual experience. When I listen to that still small voice within that guides and directs me and gives me insight, it's very spiritual.  My best paintings are the result of a simple prayer, "Dear God, please inspire me and give insight to this endeavor."

Below, please enjoy these beautiful works of art by my wonderful, creative, and awesome students.

Barbara Greenwell Cox

Barbara Greenwell Cox, 67, of Milton passed away on Good Friday, April 14, 2017. She had a contagious, exuberant spirit and with all her heart loved God, life, her family and friends. - AJC - The Cox Family

Like we wear a beautiful garment that keeps us warm on a cold winter day, we wear the legacy of love left to us by our family and friends.

Already friends, Barbara Cox joined one of my original art classes that I started when I moved here twenty-four years ago.  Barbara had a crazy good sense of humor and she could make me laugh till I’d have tears.  She was a one-of-a-kind person with a kind heart who loved her family and friends with a fierce, undying love.  She was fun, zany, spontaneous, creative, and a bundle of energy. This I can tell you, Lucille Ball had nothing on Barbara Cox!

I've been going through photos I've taken of my students during the last twenty-four years. When I found these photos of Barbara, I knew I wanted to share them.  Barbara's memorial service and lunch reception for family and friends was held on Monday.  Her family had a number of her paintings lining the back wall at the luncheon.  When I saw them, my eyes welled up with tears.  I remembered each painting and the exuberance with which she created them.

Below are some photos of Barbara with her artwork and Barbara just being the awesome person she was. I loved her. I still do.

Until that sweet moment when we're reunited in the sheer bliss of heaven, I'll wear the legacy of her friendship like a beautiful garment that keeps me warm on a cold winters day. - Jill Saur

Sweet Barbara

REST IN PEACE MY SWEET FRIEND (Psalm 23)

Many of my students who took lessons with me in my art gallery still remember Barbara Cox and her infectious smile and funny stories.

I became friends with Barbara long before she took art classes with me.  When we moved here twenty-five years ago, she was the first parent that I met in Amy's new school.  Her daughter and my daughter became fast friends.  Barbara had a crazy good sense of humor and she could make you laugh no matter what the situation.  She was a one-of-a-kind person with a kind and gentle heart.

I took this photo of her on a long walk that we took down at the Chattahoochee River.  It was the same day that she told me she had adult onset Leukemia.  Barb went to M.D. Anderson Hospital in Texas for a stem cell transplant this past January.  After three intense months, she was declared Leukemia free.  Two weeks ago, she flew to Texas for a check-up.  She contracted the flu and pneumonia and went from bad to worse in their I.C.U.

Today, on Good Friday, Barbara left this world.  She had a strong faith in a loving God.  Although she's in a far greater place, she leaves a tremendous void for those who knew and loved her.  My dear Barbara, I already miss you,  Jill

Painting Classes Roswell, GA.

"Look at any inspired painting.  It's like a gong sounding; it puts you in a state of reverberation." - Philip Guston - Artist

I love that quote.  When my students brought these finished paintings to me, (I love that they paint at home and practice what they learn in class) I had a huge smile on my face.  When I put them up on the easel to view them, it was like a gong sounding.  What a site to behold. I'm so proud of all my students!  I get a lot of comments from students in different classes about how nice it is to see what my other students are doing. I'm glad I can share these photos with you.
