Were so used to flipping through channels on our televisions and scanning through messages and emails on our phones that we've become a society of scanners rather than lookers.  

One of the beautiful things about creating art is that it causes you to stop, really stop to connect with your surroundings and creativity.  For me, it's a spiritual experience. When I listen to that still small voice within that guides and directs me, the outcome is always so much better.

This post is originally from 2016.  I love to revisit the works of my awesome students.

 "The tantalizing discomfort of perplexity is what inspires otherwise ordinary men and women to extraordinary feats of ingenuity and creativity; nothing quite focuses the mind like dissonant details awaiting harmonious resolution." - Brian Greene

What struck me about this quote is that one must be comfortable with dissonance in order to let harmony make its way to the surface.  Sometimes it's the paintings that I struggle with the most that turn out the best.  If I gave up midway in the midst of my frustration, some of my greatest works would never have come to fruition.

Fine Art Painting Classes In Roswell, GA.

When I started this 36"x48" acrylic painting, the drawing was a feat in itself.  I experimented with layering the colors over dark and light backgrounds.  I gained an incredible amount of knowledge doing something that I've never done before (I always do).  I don't regret a minute of this journey.  I titled my painting, "Noble Encounter".  It hangs in the home of a very special client.

Drawing and painting has always been and continues to be a tremendous source of therapy for me. The following words are from something I wrote on my website:

"I love what painting teaches me about life, and I love what life teaches me about painting.  I love that I can paint what I feel, and I especially love how I feel when I paint.

I love that the painting experience lightens pain, and gives wings of flight to fettered human limitations.

I love the way painting causes me to look to a source greater than myself for inspiration and guidance.  

I love knowing that although I cannot sing with my voice, my paintings are like a song that will resonate through the years, even after I’m gone.
