"The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web." - Pablo Picasso

"Painting is easy when you don't know how, but very difficult when you do."- Edgar Degas

I think my students will smile when they read this quote.  At times, it's easy to agonize over decisions of where to go in a painting or being mindful of using the elements and principles of design for a good composition.  Painting may not always be easy but it's always rewarding and extremely eye-opening.

Please enjoy these beautiful finished paintings by my awesome and creative students.

"I haven’t got it yet, but I’m hunting it and fighting for it, I want something serious, something fresh—something with soul in it! Onward, onward."—Vincent van Gogh

I was telling some students this week that I'll always be learning, always be seeking, and always be continuing to improve my artwork.  I could live a thousand years and still not have time to explore and paint all the ideas that come to me, still not have time to master what I desire to master.  So, with Van Gogh, I say, "Onward, onward."  Creating art is all about the journey and what a wonderful journey it is. - Jill

Below, please enjoy these recent creations by my awesome and talented students.

"The tantalizing discomfort of perplexity is what inspires otherwise ordinary men and women to extraordinary feats of ingenuity and creativity; nothing quite focuses the mind like dissonant details awaiting harmonious resolution." - Brian Greene

What struck me about this quote is that one must be comfortable with dissonance in order to let harmony make its way to the surface.  Sometimes it's the paintings that I struggle with the most that turn out the best.  If I gave up midway in the midst of my frustration, some of my greatest works would never have come to fruition.

"This world is but a canvas to our imagination." - Henry David Thoreau

I love to see my students soar.  Please pay special attention to the last photo!  We're starting a tradition on Monday nights for when Tamara finishes one of her masterpieces.  She practically levitates while kicking her heals in delight.  You see, Tamara has the patience of Job when working on the details of her paintings.

In this age of do everything quickly, there is great reward for the individual who takes the time to work through a process rather than skip over it.

If you do what you love and you love what you do, the happiest person in the room will certainly be you. - Jill Saur  www.JillSaurFineArt.com

"Painting is the silence of thought and the  music of sight." - Orhan Pamuk

Most of my students are in the middle of projects they're working on.  Here are the most recent finished works of late.  Please enjoy these beautiful accomplishments.  I especially love the gratification that my students feel after they finish a work.  It's so nice to see people love what they're doing!

"Paint the flying spirit of the bird rather than its feathers." - Robert Henri

I love that quote by Robert Henri.  I've been encouraging my students to really connect with their subject matter before they attempt to render it in pencil or paint.

An artist has the ability to reach deep within themselves and express their emotions with every stroke of their brush or palette knife. There's never been a time in history that we've had such beautiful hues of paint to work with.  Each hue contains one or more of our emotions or thoughts waiting to be unleashed and set free.  Express, indulge, and create!

Please enjoy these beautiful works and works in creation by my wonderful students.
