"It's impossible to explain creativity.  It's like asking a bird, 'How do you fly?' You just do. - Eric Jerome Dickey.

Creativity springing forth from the human soul is both mysterious and tranquil.  It's a thing of beauty and as Eric Dickey says in his quote, it's impossible to explain.

Please enjoy these beautiful works by my wonderful students from several years ago.

Painting Classes for Teens

Painting Classes for Teens in Roswell, GA.

I teach drawing and painting for both teens and adults.  I'm looking to put a teen art class together for the summer and of course this could continue into the fall and next year.  It's up to you.  Learning to draw and paint is extremely beneficial for teens.  It helps to create confidence, self-esteem and skills a person never knew they had.

Whether your teen is a former art student or someone who's interested in learning to draw or paint, I'd love for you to visit my website to learn more about what I'm doing.  I'll only be taking six or seven students in each class.  You can read what my students have to say about taking classes with me. When classes fill up, I'll be happy to put you on a waiting list.

There's a contact form on my website.  Feel free to get in touch!  Or, give me a call at 678-520-5668.  I'm happy to answer any questions. - Jill

"Those who do not move, do not notice their chains." - Rosa Luxemburg

I've been working on a very challenging painting this week.  Every time I put my canvas on my easel and pick up my brush, I feel a little paralyzed and chained.  But, when I start moving my brush around the tough areas of the composition, the chains eventually turn into silk threads and I'm seeing something beautiful unfold.  The journey of an artist's life is not without difficulties, but nothing worth achieving is ever easy.  - Jill Saur

Below, please enjoy these photos of students from past classes.  It's been a true joy to have a window into their world and watch them create such beautiful works of art!

"Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness.  It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind.  As the sun colors flowers, so does art color life." - John Lubbock

In class today, I showed my students one way to set up a still-life. I use my iphone to check and crop my composition. Still life paintings aren't easy but they're one of the best ways to improve your painting skills. If you've never painted a still-life, start with just one piece of fruit. The most important aspects are composition, value, and then color. I'll be painting this one in oil.

"While talent or genius must exist, at best they are merely embryonic factors and no one can guide these into productive artistry without the initiative, perseverance and determination of the student.  To say that the artist is born and not made, is only partly true.  Actually, while it is an important qualification, there is no proof of real worth in talent until it has been developed and expanded by a tremendous amount of serious study and plain hard work." - Edgar Payne

Please enjoy these truly stunning works by my industrious, creative, and awesome students! It's very rewarding to watch my students grow and do such beautiful renderings of what they love!

Martin Glaser, a legendary New York graphic designer, famous for creating the ‘I Love New York’ logo, recently spoke about something that’s dear to my heart.  Martin said, “If you can sustain your interest in what you’re doing, you’re an extremely fortunate person.  What you see very frequently in people’s professional lives, and perhaps in their emotional life as well, is that they lose interest in the third act.  You sort of get tired, and indifferent, and sometimes, defensive and you kind of lose your capacity for astonishment, and that’s a great loss, because the world is a very astonishing place.”

Most of my clients lead very busy lives, are professional businessmen and women, own businesses and some are taking care of large families.  I also stay very busy with my classes, painting, and the business side of what I do.  It takes determination to stop and re-charge the creative side, but it's vitally important.

I’m in the third act of my life and  I still find wonder in observing nature, seeing the cloud formations before a storm, and getting up early to watch the sunrise over the misty waters of the Chattahoochee River.

I agree with Martin Glaser, the world is a very astonishing place and I hope you're able to take the necessary time to be utterly astonished too!
