Painting Classes Roswell, Ga.

If you wanted to build more muscle mass, you'd join a gym and start lifting weights.  Can you imagine going your first day and walking out looking like Mr. America?  Of course not! You'd realize that muscles are build one workout session at a time, over a period of time.

The same is true with becoming a good artist.  It takes time to train your eye to see what you're truly looking at and to develop skills to use your imagination.  It takes practice and the acceptance of difficult challenges.  Nobody goes to the gym for their first session and walks out in prime condition and nobody sits down at an easel for the first time and paints a masterpiece!

Van Gogh became proficient at drawing before he began painting.  Over the course of his short life, he completed over a thousand renderings!  No wonder he said that great things are done by a series of small things brought together!

Why does an artist experience a certain amount of fear when trying something new in art?  I think one of the reasons is that we feel vulnerable and that we might not do a good job. When faced with doing something new, we realize what we don't know.  It can be intimidating.  

The only way to make new discoveries in art is to try something that you've never done before.  I love making new discoveries and seeing where they'll take me.  I still believe that growing as an artist is one of the best journeys an artist can take! 

Continue to push yourself and challenge the boundaries of what you think you're capable of doing, because you're capable of doing much more than you think!  And, when you try something new, you might become frustrated.  Just remember, if you don't give up, the thing that frustrates you the most is the very place that you're going to find your greatest breakthrough.  This is my own personal experience and I'm sure many of my students and other artists can relate to it.

I presented my Monday night class with the Einstein challenge.  It was an exercise in loosening up.  I painted a demo and everyone did their thing.  I'll show the whole group of paintings when my other two students are finished.  I love seeing how unique each students work is!

Best Oil and Acrylic Art Brush Cleaner

I posted the following information over a year ago.  Since then, I have new students and thought this would be pertinent to share.  If you need to refer to it in the future, you can always find it on my website. 

RESTORING YOUR ACRYLIC & OIL BRUSHES

I had been using a popular brush soap to clean my brushes.  I read an article about Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer and decided to give it a try to restore the brushes that my brush soap did not thoroughly clean.  

I took eighteen brushes that I had cleaned with brush soap for the duration of their use.  Over a period of time, the paint at the base of the brush (that my brush soap didn't remove) hardened the bristles.  I soaked them in Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer.  This product is for brushes that have been used with acrylic and oil paint.  

Look at the color of the restorer brush liquid that was dislodged from the brushes!  

This $16.00 16 oz. bottle of cleaner and restorer has saved approximately $600.00 worth of brushes! Amazing!  Be sure to read the directions on the back of the bottle do determine how long you'll need to soak your brushes.
