"No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man."  Heraclitus

I'm often asked how to paint a particular subject.  I don't always do the same thing twice. There are so many ways to paint, so many wonderful techniques to investigate.  When I teach my students how to go about something, I always hope they'll experiment further at home.

Personally, I still experiment and am wildly entertained by new ideas that cascade out of reservoirs of creativity that I'm convinced shall never cease, even if I live to be a hundred.

Please enjoy these beautiful works and works in progress by my awesome students.  To inquire about fine art classes in Roswell, GA., please visit my website for further details.

Van Gogh and Anton Mauve

At first glance, would you think the works below are by Van Gogh?  They’re actually the paintings of his cousin by marriage, master painter, Anton Mauve.  Vincent took painting lessons in The Hague from Anton.  Mauve taught Vincent the basics of painting in oil and watercolor.  Van Gogh visited his studio almost every day when he was there.

It’s clear to see the effect that Anton had on Vincent’s early works and even some later ones.  Who has had an impact on your art?  For me, it was my first watercolor teacher, master artist, Bud Biggs.  Bud deeply influenced the subject matter I painted until I found my own passion of what I wanted to paint, and developed my own techniques.  I started out painting in watercolor and oil, and then gradually found my way to acrylic painting.

Van Gogh is my favorite artist. I love his art, his story, and his passion.  I’d say that he’s the one that most influences the artist I am today.  I’m influenced by his dedication to grow, the movement in his work, his masterful use of color and the ability to move the viewer.
I think it’s important to have people in your life that have gone before you, people that demonstrate expertise.  Learn from them, and while your learning from them, study all you can on your own.  You want to grow into the person and artist your meant to be. – Jill Saur

The Art of Patience

Of all your art supplies, patience will always be your most important tool.  I'm highlighting Tamara's work this week because I think it exemplifies the patience that was required to carry out this beautiful work of art.  Tamara experienced many emotions while working on this piece but she never gave up.  I don't think any artist grows into maturity without exercising patience.

Knowledge and the use of painting techniques are gained over time by implementing practice, studies, and allowing yourself to make mistakes and learn from them.  In the end, it's so incredibly rewarding!

Happy Painting! - Jill Saur

"While talent or genius must exist, at best they are merely embryonic factors and no one can guide these into productive artistry without the initiative, perseverance and determination of the student.  To say that the artist is born and not made, is only partly true.  Actually, while it is an important qualification, there is no proof of real worth in talent until it has been developed and expanded by a tremendous amount of serious study and plain hard work." - Edgar Payne

Please enjoy these truly stunning works by my industrious, creative, and awesome students! It's very rewarding to watch my students grow and do such beautiful renderings of what they love!

Fine Art Classes - Roswell - GA.

“It is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is well done.” ― Vincent Van Gogh

It's so much fun for me to see my students working on the subject matter of their choosing.  I always feel that if you work on something you love, you're going to love what you're working on.

Continue to push yourself and challenge the boundaries of what you think you're capable of doing because you're capable of doing much more than you think!
