Painting Tip
Not sure how to proceed in a painting with the placement of objects? In most instances, you can make sketches ahead of time, but there are those paintings that sketches don't entirely help with.
One of my students is working on a big palette knife painting. When you're working with a lot of texture, it's very messy to remove paint and you certainly can't paint over it.
After a certain amount of flowers were already added to her painting, my student wasn't sure where to add more blue flowers. I told her to draw the basic shapes of her flowers on her drawing pad, paint them blue, and cut them out. Then, put double sided tape on the back of the flowers and place them in different areas of the painting until she ended up with a design that she liked.
With her permission, I'm showing you progress photos of her painting. You can see how she laid out the paper flowers before actually painting them. This beautiful painting isn't finished. I'll keep you posted! - Jill Saur
