We had some really nice finished pieces today while others are in the midst of working out

their creative new works.  

Today, we talked today about line and direction in a work of art and how important it is to keep your eye moving around the painting visiting the different aspects, rather than taking someones eye right off the canvas with a line that goes off the page.  We also talked about shapes and how important it is to vary the shapes to keep interest alive.

Art Classes Roswell - (Saturday)

Complimentary Color Painting by Jill Saur

This is the palette for a complimentary color painting that I painted a while back. Then entire palette is mixed from one red and one green. Red and green are complimentary colors (colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel). White is allowed to lighten, and black is allowed to darken.

Complimentary colors look good together when they are side by side. When mixed together, they produce wonderful hues and tones.  This palette produced the painting below.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO PAT AND HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY TO JIM!!!!!!  YOU SURE DON'T LOOK 80!!!!  Eighty must be the new 60.  

We had pizza, salad and dessert after class to celebrate two birthdays and especially Jim's 80th.

What a landmark for such a great guy!  Happy Birthday Professor!!

All around, it was a fun day today.  At the very bottom, Rebecca finished her painting today.  It is a stunner!  Way to go Rebecca!

And The Winner Is .....

I gave sketchbooks to my students for Christmas and let everyone know that whoever had their sketchbook filled up with gesture drawings and sketches by March 1st, would be eligible for a complimentary painting by me.  Roella, from my Saturday class is the winner of one of my original aspen tree paintings.  I gave her three paintings to choose from and this is the one she chose.  Congratulations Roella!!!

Below, I took a photo and posted one the sketches from her book.  I'm glad that she is happy with her painting and that she learned a lot from doing those sketches.  I've had some very nice feedback from my students regarding the positive experience using their sketchbooks.
