I had a nice compliment this week from one of my students.  She was mixing up an unusual and beautiful color and called me over to look at it.  She told me that she would have never been able to achieve what she was doing if she hadn't learned and made her own double complimentary color wheel with me.  Thanks to all of my students who give me such nice feedback!  It's both rewarding and helpful to me to know what you're getting out of the classes!

Speaking of classes, here is an array of finished pieces from the last several weeks.  I've thrown in a few gesture drawings from Nick.  Everyone seems to have really tuned in to doing their gesture drawings.  Gestures drawings are rewarding, relaxing, and the perfect way to develop your hand-eye coordination.  The more you draw, the more you see!

It's been a great few weeks and here are several finished works as well as some works in progress.  Henri Matisse is right, creativity does take courage.  It takes courage to step out of our comfort zone, putting our personal expressions on paper or canvas, stumbling for those right lines and brushstrokes that express our innermost selves.  Yet, the reward is profoundly life changing for those who persevere!

With permission from Sandy, I'm sharing the letter and photographs sent to me (below), so that we can all celebrate Mac's success!

Congratulations Mac on your brilliant achievement!  I'm so proud of you!  We all miss you too!

Wanted to send you a quick note about Mac. We just returned from attending
the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in New York City. We went to celebrate
with Mac for receiving a National Gold Medal for a drawing she submitted. Of
the 230,000 submissions only 1% received National recognition ( even fewer
gold medals)!! The ceremony was at Carnegie Hall and we visited the Gallery
at Parsons School where her piece is on display with all the other National
Gold winners from across the Country! Very exciting week-end and
recognition for Mac!

Thank you for all that you have taught and encouraged her to do!
