I love that quote by Robert Henri.  I've been encouraging my students to really connect with their subject matter before they attempt to render it in pencil or paint.  

An artist has the ability to reach deep within themselves and express their emotions with every stroke of their brush or palette knife. There's never been a time in history that we've had such beautiful hues of paint to work with.  Each hue contains one or more of our emotions or thoughts waiting to be unleashed and set free.  Express, indulge, and create!
