Painting Classes Roswell, GA

Truly all is remarkable and a wellspring of amazement and wonder. Man is so fortunate to dwell in this American Garden of Eden. —Albert Bierstadt

Albert Bierstadt was born in Germany in 1830 and grew up in America.  He was a prolific artist who painted the West but who also joined a group of artists in New York, known as the Hudson River School.  These artists traveled up and down the Hudson River and painted breathtaking scenes with a luminous glow.  Bierstadt is often categorized as a Luminist Painter

  1. Luminism is an American landscape painting style of the 1850s – 1870s, characterized by effects of light in landscapes, through using aerial perspective, and concealing visible brushstrokes. - wikipedia

The first painting below, painted by one of my students, is a study of an Albert Bierstadt painting.  My student  wanted to do a study in the style of luminism.   So, I said, "Why not do a study of Albert Bierstadt?  He was one of the best."  I'd say she did a masterful job!

I'm so proud of everyones work these past few weeks.  It's a privilege to watch all of my students learn and grow and enjoy what they do!

Painting Classes Roswell, GA

"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." - Oscar Wilde

Why do we have fear about trying new things?  I think one of the many reasons is that we realize how much we don't know and that we might not do a good job.  I tell my students (and have to remind myself) that the canvas is just cotton and watercolor paper is just a dead tree.  What's there to be afraid of?

The only way to make new discoveries in art is to try something that you've never done before.  I love making new discoveries and seeing where they'll take me.  I still believe that growing as an artist is one of the best journeys that we'll ever take! - Jill

Please enjoy these recent finished works by my awesome students.
